A very tall ivory netsuke of Kensu Oshô. 18th century

Standing open-mouthed with a curly beard, wearing layers of belted robes and holding a large ebi by his head with antennae pointing downwards, the tail curled inwards.
Kensu Oshô was a legendary monk who disregarded Buddhist vegetarian rules and nourished himself on crayfish and shells. He is said to have attained enlightenment while catching shrimp.
