A large Kyoto school ivory netsuke of a laughing Hotei. Late 18th century

The triangular piece carved in the shape of Hotei standing one foot placed over the other, bare-bellied and hirsute with huge earlobes, a laughing karako at his shoulder who sticks out his tongue and holds a stiff fan. The eye pupils of black horn.
