A Kyoto school ivory netsuke of a smiling karako on a fan. Late 18th/early 19th century

Crawling over Hotei’s large Chinese-style stiff fan and holding onto the rim, beside him a tama, both sides of the fan with peonies and scrolls in line engraving on a stippled ground, the handle in shape of a bamboo rod. Inscribed Masanao in an irregular reserve.
Height 2.4 cm; length 5 cm
