A Kyoto school ivory netsuke of a shishimai mask. Late 18th/early 19th century

The square-shaped head with bulging eyes and flat nose covered all over with hair tufts and locks, the lower jaw opens downward to reveal a tongue and an upper and lower row of teeth. The eye pupils of brass and shakudô. Inscribed Tomotada.
Height 3.8 cm; length 4.3 cm
