An ivory netsuke of Daikoku, by Masakazu. Early 19th century

Seated on a rice bale with one leg pendant, the mallet in his raised hand. The left hand showing the fig gesture, in Japan a popular obscene gestures since the Edo period. The robe very finely incised with scrolls and clouds. Signed Masakazu in a raised reserve.
