A boxwood netsuke of Fukusuke, by Mokusetsu. 19th century

Seated in kamishimo (formal wear) with legs folded beneath and holding a small folding fan. The crest displays the character “kanaeru”, which means to grant a wish. The hair lacquered black. Signed oju (to request) Mokusetsu gyônen nanjûhachi (at the age of 78).
