The "Praying Boy", made in the 3rd century BC, is among the most well-known original Greek bronzes. Frederick II purchased the sculpture from Wenzel Liechtenstein in 1747 for the exorbitant sum of 5000 talers and displayed it on the terrace before Sanssouci Palace. The work was replaced with a copy in 1846, and the vast number subsequent casts in the original size and smaller testify to the sculpture's popularity even in the 19th century.
