The imperial abbey of Salem was a Cistercian monastery and one of the most wealthy and significant abbeys subordinate to the emperor in the area of Lake Constance. Konstantin Müller (or: Miller) was the 36th abbot of Salem and organised numerous renovations and expansions to the baroque building, which earned Salem the reputation of a major centre of the rococo style.
