An 18k gold twisting ring with a Roman cameo.

The twisting bezel set to one side with a layered glass cameo (ca. 16 x 17 mm) depicting a tree, to the opposite side a fine gold impression of a Hellenistic gryllos cameo. Maker's mark "FD". The cameo worn and with soiling (in keeping with an archaeological find). Ring size 66. Weight 17.5 g.
Fritz Deutsch (Reichenberg/Czech Republic 1921 - Cologne 1990). The cameo provincial Roman, 1st / 2nd C.

According to a notice from Fritz Deutsch, the cameo was given to him as a present in 1968 by the former director of the Römisch-Germanisches Museum Peter La Baume. It was apparently found in 1966 during construction work on the Neumarkt underground station.
