Only a handfull of paintings have thus far been securely attributed to Pieter van Overschee. However, his skill indicates that his oeuvre could actually be much larger. Many of his works may currently be attributed to more well known still life painters. A very fine, signed still life of his which - like the present work - combines game and fruit with a Chinese bowl, is kept in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (inv. no. 22.45.10).
