A carved limewood relief of Saint Barbara attributed to Gregor Erhart.

Remains of original polychromy and gilding.. This exceptionally finely carved relief would have originally formed part of a hinged altarpiece. It shows the saint standing before a curtain with her attributes, the chalice and tower. The piece can be dated to around 1495/1500 and follows the compositional scheme and style of figures devised by Gregor Erhart, son and pupil of the Ulm-based sculptor Michel Erhart, who opened his own workshop in Augsburg in 1496.
With minimal wear. 79 x 37 x 7 cm.
