A Berlin KPM porcelain vase with a portrait of Frederick II

Of rounded, elongated form, decorated with a portrait of the King in grisaille and floral patterns after designs by Willy Stanke. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark and iron cross, year letter R for 1917, painter's mark. H 37.5 cm.
1917.

Although the forms used in the jugendstil era took a significant detour from the traditional designs utilised by the Hohenzollern family's favourite manufacturer, they did permit themselves some references to the illustrious past, especially during the WWI period. In this piece, Willy Stanke's stylised floral designs are combined with a portrait of Frederick II.
