A limewood figure of the Virgin and Child carved in the workshop of Nikolaus Weckmann.

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. Minimal remains of former polychromy, the eyes and lips subsequently painted.. A full-figure depiction of the Virgin standing in balanced contrapposto and designed for a frontal viewpoint. She holds the naked Christ Child over Her right hip, and He carries a pomegranate in His left hand. The sculpture is characterised by the overall fineness of the carving and the harmonious balance of lively folds, smooth planes and curving seams in the drapery. The figure was carved in Ulm and can be dated to around 1500.
With an open crack to the back of the Virgin's head. Minimal wear. Height 98 cm.
