A Bavarian carved wood relief of the annunciation, circa 1530

With older polychromy. This high relief shows the Virgin Mary seated at a prie-dieu upon a scrollwork chair beneath a Renaissance style arch. The angel of the annunciation approaches from the left and the scene is crowned by a depiction of the dove of the Holy Spirit the Christ Child and floating down towards His mother.
With several fine cracks, the upper left corner replaced, minimal wear. 71 x 48 x 4 cm.
