The present composition exists in several versions, none of which could yet be confirmed as authentic works by Weenix. The piece uses the compositional motif of a game still life in a panoramic landscape, which Weenix developed in the early 1780s and continued to use until the end of his career. In the right foreground we see an arrangement of dead game presented before a stone vase or pedestal, whilst the left half of the image is occupied by a view into a panoramic landscape, usually a park. A work signed by Weenix kept in the Gemäldegallerie der Schönen Künste in Vienna displays a similar landscape background.
