A large bronze vase. Around 1940-1960

A large bronze vase with breaking waves and rocks, small dots of gold, the crescent moon inlaid in silver. Engraved kaô of Uozumi Iraku at the base. Around 1940-1960. Wooden stand.
Height 35.6 cm

Uozumi Iraku (1886-1964) became apprenticed to Yamaguchi Tokuzô, a Buddhist altar craftsman, and became interested in studying and casting of gong bells while making altars. In 1935 he exhibited at Teiten, where he received moral support and creative instruction from Masaki Naohiko, the president of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. Afterwards he turned his attention to the study of sahari (an alloy of copper and tin) casting.
