Hand-inscribed on an old label to the reverse: Frans Van Mieris / the Elder / Painted 1661.
This work follows the signed composition by Johann Heinrich Roos dated 1673 which is kept in the Bayerischen Staatsgemäldesammlungen in Munich (cf. Hermann Jedding: Johann Heinrich Roos. Werke einer Pfälzer Tiermalerfamilie in den Galerien Europas, Main 1998, p. 333, illus. colour plate 5).
