A small white Carrara marble figure of Narcissus by Fritz Heinemann

A figure of the youthful Narcissus carved in the round, wearing a knotted handkerchief on his head and admiring his reflection in a hand mirror. Engraved to the back of the plinth: Fritz Heinemann 1891. Minor chips to the edges. H 57.2 cm.

The young Westphalian sculptor Fritz Heinemann's first significant breakthrough was when Prince Albert of Prussia purchased one of his larger works in marble at the International Art Exhibition of 1891. He spent the next two years in Paris and Rome.
