''Graubner's cushion pictures, including those that accentuate the impression of weight, that contrast with immateriality, do not have anything to do with the 1959 proclaimed Ausstieg aus dem Bild (Exit from the Picture) of the Zero Group. The painterly object, in terms of the artist 'categorises itself under the optical dimension, even when, as a cushion, it becomes a sensory object'. It is not about the refraction of real light on material surfaces, such as with Uecker's (partly also painted) nail reliefs, but the light value of a deliberately materially embodied colour. Graubner captured his intention in a poweful formula: Colour = densification to an organism = painting. He continues to consistently pursue the artistic goal formulated in this. The colouring appears as if weighted by earth, in all its difusion, as well as spirituality, of which Graubner's painting is capable of, the contact with weight and body never gets lost.''
