A Goa ivory carving of Christ as the Good Shepherd, 17th-18th century

Carved in the round from two blocks, partially freestanding. Minimal remains of partial former polychromy.. The good shepherd is shown sitting with crossed legs, holding a lamb on one shoulder and another under His left arm. The tall, layered plinth depicts the fountain of life surrounded by lambs to the upper part, the penitent Mary Magdalene in a grotto to the lower part, and two lions to the sides.
The good shepherd figure loosely pegged to the base. The reverse yellowed. Height 21.5 cm.
