A very large lacquered wood figure of Monju Bosatsu. 18th/early 19th century

A very large lacquered wood figure of Monju Bosatsu seated in meditation on a very large lotus flower above an open flower and a cushion supported by a reclining shishi on a rocky base, all on a rectangular pedestal, the bodhisattva holds a sword in his right hand and formerly a spherical jewel in his left, a highly elaborate crown of metal and beads on his head, behind the figure a large mandorla with scrolls in openwork with seven small Amida Bosatsu seated in meditation attached to it. The eyes of white glass, the eye pupils painted black and contoured in red. 18th/early 19th century.
