Hermann Eicke, patented 1878, the electric version 1910.

Hermann Eicke (1837 - 1897) is thought to be the inventor of the first tilting cofee maker. He filed the patent in 1878, but couldn't afford to pay for the property rights a few years later and thus other makers began to copy his design. His descendants patented the eletric version of his invention in 1910, thirteen years after his death. The his namesake Café Hermann Eicke was opened in 2012 in Brunnenstrasse close to the Berlin wall memorial in Berlin Mitte.
