Decorated in mixed media (gouache, ink, red chalk on canvas), carved softwood, replaced metal hinges. Comprised of six curved panels, each painted with two pastoral scenes reserved in rectangular rocaille cartouches and titled in a central oval cartouche on trellis pattern and blue ground. The scenes titled: Ver / Auctumnus, Le Matin / Le Soir, Le Eau / Le Aer, Le Feu / Le terre, Aestas / Hyems, Le Midi / La Nuit and inscribed with short verses in German. Verso with twelve hunting scenes en grisaille on ochre ground. Older moisture damage. H 191 cm, W of each panel 60.5 cm.
East Germany, presumably Saxony, mid-18th C.

The depiction of "The Morning" is inscribed with the following poem: "kaum das die sone sich mit ihren strahlen zeigt / kaum das der corydon vom Lager aufgestanden ist / seine Schäferin schon munter und vorhanden / daß sie ihm einen Cranz um Seine Schlaffe beugt".
"The earth" with: "Die Erde bringt hervor viel Früchte zum Genuß / allein mein Schatz hat sie an mir nur kein verdruß / ich wollt sie lieben jetzt wan es ihr war bequem ist / es warlich recht und euch sehr angenehm".

The iconography of this piece allows us to assume that it was intended for a summer residence or hunting lodge.
