An unusual boxwood netsuke of a figure with a child. Early 19th century

Standing in balance on one foot with a baby covered by the kimono at the back who pulls the hair; the figure wears a straw sandal to one foot, while the raised foot is bare, the left hand holding the band that fastens the baby to the back. Inscribed Minko.
Height 6.7 cm

While the subject at first glance appears to depict a mother and child, the hairdo is that of a man, the traditional chon-mage with shaven pate and a queue which when folded forms the characteristic top knot.
