A large and fine boxwood Ise-Yamada school netsuke of a rat rolled into a ball, by Masashige. Ca. 1960/1970

Scratching its nose with one paw and its ear with the other, the tail curled around the body. The large eyes of black wood. Signed Masashige in a polished oval reserve.
Height 3.5 cm; length 4 cm

Sakai Masashige (born 1908) is the second son of Sakai Masakiyo (1875-1955) and the younger brother of Sakai Shinzan (1904-1968).
