With remains of a red varnish collector's seal to the reverse, as well as an old label with a hand-written inscription: "Sebastian Franken or old […] called the Elder. / born at Antwerp 1540 [1546?] (an Original Signed Picture) / he studied under Francis [F]loris & painted […] / […] / […] to his [l]arger works they are well collored and / […] great freedom [?] and effect in 1581 / was received into the Academy of Antwerp he died 1611".
