A Mechelen alabaster relief of Christ being nailed to the cross, circa 1600

With remnants of the original parcel gilding and minimal remains of polychromy. A high relief depiction of two soldiers affixing Christ to the cross with the help of a large drill, tongs, and a hammer, accompanied by a soldier with his back to the scene. In the background we see the mourning figures of the Virgin Mary and Saint John. The plinth is inscribed with the initials "ND" and the artist's cypher.
Wear to the edges. The frame presumably of the period. 12.5 x 9.5 cm (without frame), 22 x 19 cm (with frame).
