A Berlin silver coffee pot from Café Jostÿ

Twist-fluted body on flat base, the upper and lower sections with an egg-and-dart frieze. Engraved to the body "J. D. Jostÿ". H 23.5 cm, weight 953 g.
Marks of Heinrich Wilhelm Ludwig Wilm jun., 1819 - 36.

The brothers Johann and Daniel Josty emigrated from Switzerland to Berlin in the late 18th century. There they founded the "Zuckerbäckerei Johann Josty & Co." in 1796, which was known simply as "Café Josty" as of 1812. Their first address was "An der Stechbahn 1" opposite the Berlin City Palace, and they opened a branch on Potsdamer Platz in 1880. Café Josty was frequented by artists from very early on, for example Heinrich Heine, Joseph von Eichendorff, the Brothers Grimm, and during the Empire Theodor Fontane and Adolph Menzel.
