A Berlin silver candelabrum for the Drei Degen Lodge

Baluster-form shaft with rocaille decor supporting three curved branches. The base engraved with Masonic emblems and the dedication "Die Schwestern der Loge zu den dreÿ Degen den 14t December 1843.". H 48.5 cm, weight 1,154 g.
With marks of Johann George Hossauer and Johann George Wilhelm Peters, 1843.

In his “Geschichte der Freimaurer-Loge im Orient von Halle" (History of the Masonic Lodge in the East of Halle) Friedich August Eckstein writes that on 14th December 1843 “Before the opening of the Lodge the visiting Brothers were greeted in the Masonic manner and the affectionate gifts of the Sisters, three silver candlesticks with three silver arms, were placed on the altar and lit by the High Master accompanied by two Stewards.”

The “Haus zu den drei Degen“ was constructed on the Jägerburg above the Saale in the late 18th century and enlarged several times. It is currently under the ownership of the National Academy of the Sciences “Leopoldina”.
