St. Petersburg, jeweller Keibel, the mosaic Roman, circa 1800 - 1820.

The Keibel firm was among the most renowned jewellers in St. Petersburg in the early 19th century and were suppliers to the Tsar's court. The goldsmith dynasty was started by the Prussian Otto Keibel (Pasewalk 1768 - St. Petersburg 1810) in the late 18th century, and the family first specialised in gold boxes before branching out into military orders and medals. Following Otto Keibel's death in 1810, his son Johann Wilhelm (1788 Pasewalk - 1862) took over the family firm. However, since he continued to use the old company signet, it is often difficult to assign pieces to father or son.
