A miniature reproduction of "The Broken Pitcher"

Gouache on ivory. Delicately painted pointillé reproduction of the well known work "La cruche cassée" by Jean Baptiste Greuze (1771). Signed lower right: "Nimmo 1879". Inscribed, signed, and dated to the reverse. The ivory panel warped. 16 x 13 cm. In an oval gilt copper frame.

The French miniaturist Nimmo was a pupil of Jules Meurat. Alongside portraits he also painted miniature copies of old master paintings which he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1853 - 1881.
