A gold galvanized metal plaque with an Egyptian motif

Round plaque with a depiction of an Egyptian lady and her retinue by a temple, inset in a wooden surround. Engraved lower left "A. Willms inv." and "Thos Spall Fecit 1889". D 33.4, frame H 43.3, W 43.2 cm.
Birmingham, attributed to Elkington & Co Ltd, 1889, produced by Thomas Spall after a design by August Adolphe Willms.

Auguste Adolphe Willms (1827 - 1899) became head designer at Elkington & Co. in 1859, a position which he held until his death. Before moving to Birmingham he worked in Paris, including under Jean-Valentin Morel.
Thomas Spall (1853 - 1914) apprenticed at Elkington & Co. before working there as an embosser and chaser.
