A large Cologne mortar from the "Paradiesapotheke"

Cast bronze with golden brown patina and traces of green corrosion. A solid bell-shaped mortar cast with two bands of arabesques and numerous mouldings above a stepped moulded base. A banderole inscribed in majuscule around the flared rim "IOHANNES ELBVRGH PHARMACOPOEVS COLONIEN ME FIERI FECIT PER IOANNEM LEHR 1651". H 38, D 47.5 cm. Weight ca. 100,0 kg.
