Wilhelm Trübner

Balkonzimmer am Starnberger See
1912

Oil on canvas 62 x 76 cm Framed. Signed 'W. Trübner' in black lower right. - Partially with fine craquelure. Few minute colour losses in the left third of the depiction.

This painting is a fine example of how Trübner turned to impressionism in his late work, while nonetheless retaining his realistic and naturalistic perception of painting. A balcony room, probably in the Villa Goes in Niederpöcking, has been exquisitely depicted here with great attention to detail; the open floor-to-ceiling windows allow an alluring view of Lake Starnberg. Trübner repeatedly varied this interior scene slightly and created a series of a total of six versions, all of which were created in the late summer of 1912. Three of them are now to be found in museums: Museum Folkwang, Essen (inv. no. 191); Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg (inv. no. GM 1025); Wilhelm Hack Museum, Ludwigshafen (inv. no. 450/158).
