A Sinotibetan thangka of Tsongkhapa. 18th/19th century

Seated in dhyanasana on a lion throne, his hands are held in front of his heart in the dharma teaching mudra, delicately holding the stems of two lotus flowers blossoming alongside his shoulders, the right blossom supports a wisdom sword and at the left a book, flanked by his two spiritual sons, Gyaltsabje and Khedrubje, with Buddha Shakyamuni, Maitreya and Manjushri above and Vaishravana, Yama and Yami and another protector deity below. Gouache and gold on cloth. Brocade mounting. The reverse covered with silk. Some areas retouched.
