A silver gilt bracelet with a mask

Designed as a band of hinged plaques with a decorative pierced central motif depicting two female theatre masks framed by foliate relief decor and granulation, set with a rose-cut diamond, a ruby, and a pearl. Indistinct hallmarks: Fineness 900, Munich assay mark, maker's mark "JMW". Bracelet diameter 6 cm. Plaque 4.3 x 3.5 cm. Weight 65.30 g.
Johann Michael Wilm sen., Munich, presumably circa 1940.

The theatre mask motif can be found in this Munich based goldsmith's works well into the 1950s. He first presented a classical style pendant with a granulated mask motif at the Munich Art Exhibition of 1929. The Munich goldsmith's journal published a foliate ring with a pair of embossed theatre masks in 1941 which was stylistically similar to those of this bangle, which helps us to date the piece.
