A lidded lacquer box of sumi-aka ("red corners") type. Edo period

The lid and sides displaying camellia bushes and pine saplings in gold and silver maki-e on a nashiji ground and kiri mon. The corners and sides of the the lower part of the box covered with fabric and red lacquer. Nashiji to the inside and an inset tray. At the long sides two fittings of partly gilded shakudô with a loose ring for the cord.
