The Great Black One with six hands striding in alidhasana over a prostrate figure of Ganapati, holding a curved knife and skull cup in his principal hands and a skull-mala, drum, trident and lasso in his radiating arms, dressed in a tiger skin dhoti and adorned with a streaming ribbon, a snake around his neck and a garland of severed heads, the bearded face with bared fangs and bulging eyes surmounted by a skull tiara, backed by an aureole of flames, flanked by two dakinis and surrounded by his five principal attendant deities, clockwise: Shri Devi riding a mule, Trakshe, the Lord of Demons, riding a horse, Kshetrapala riding a bear, the red Takkiraja and the black Jinamitraby and further figures above, all set against a mountainous landscape with a cloudy sky. Each figure identified by a gold inscription. The reverse covered with silk.

Gerda Sökeland wurde 1931 in Duisburg geboren, studierte nach dem Abitur Medizin und war Mutter von vier Kindern. Ihre lebenslange Reiselust rührt möglicherweise von einer Kindheitserfahrung her. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges war sie mit der Kinderlandverschickung in Tschechien untergebracht. Nach Kriegsende ist sie von Tschechien, hauptsächlich zu Fuß, zurück in das Ruhrgebiet. Was andere als großes Ungemach in Erinnerung behalten haben, scheint ihre Reise- und Abenteuerlust eher angefacht zu haben.
Neben zahlreichen Ländern der Welt, bereiste Gerda Sökeland hauptsächlich die Regionen des Himalaya, wie Kaschmir, Bhutan, Nepal und Tibet. Sie lernte die tibetische Sprache, besuchte Klöster vor Ort und brachte den Menschen Medikamente und andere Hilfsgüter. Als leidenschaftliche Fotografin erstellte sie zahlreiche Fotodokumentationen, die veröffentlicht wurden, beispielsweise im Magazin Trecking Touren, „Karawanenwege in Himalaya“, 1985.
