A Berlin silver candlestick from the dinner service of Frederick the Great

Baluster-form shaft engraved with the FR monogram beneath the Prussian royal crown issuing from a hollow in the centre of the slightly domed octagonal base. Engraved to the base with weight inscription of the royal silver chamber "14 3/4". H 15 cm, weight 268 g.
Marks of Christian Lieberkühn the Younger, 1746/47.

This candlestick belongs to the "new silver service" commissioned from Lieberkühn by Friedrich II following the end of the 2nd Silesian war. The service, to which numerous subsequent orders were added, was originally made for 50 to 60 place settings, each of which included one of these small single-flame candlesticks.
