A Berlin silver platter made for the Prussian crown prince and princess

Oval platter with broad moulded rim decorated with fruiting grape vines entwined with ribbons. The centre with the Prussian eagle beneath the royal crown surrounded by the chain of the Order of the Black Eagle. L 47; W 33.5 cm, weight 1,526 g.
Marks of Johann George Hossauer, 1854 - 59.

This service was commissioned as a wedding gift for Prince Wilhelm von Preußen, the later Emperor Wilhelm I, and Princess Marie Luise Augusta Katharine zu Sachsen-Weimar on 11th June 1829. This plate appears to be a later addition.
