Hermann (David Salomon) Corrodi

Roman Aqueduct on the Appia Antica at Sunset

Oil on canvas. 85.5 x 147 cm.
Signed lower left: H. Corrodi. Roma.

In this work, Corrodi depicts one of the most famous motifs from Roman history and topography, the Via Appia, that crosses a Roman aqueduct. Both the road and the aqueduct were constructed under Appius Claudius Caecus in the year 312 B.C. The present work exemplifies Corrodi's fascination both with depicting atmospheric scenery and Italian daily life.
