Oskar Moll

Grüne Dame im roten Sessel
1946

Oil and black chalk on artist's board 79.7 x 70 cm Framed. Signed and dated 'Oskar Moll 46' in black chalk lower left. With the Estate stamp and inscribed "485" in an unknown hand verso. - Isolated minor retouches, the corners of the artist's board strengthened.

The portrait of the "Grüne Dame im roten Sessel" is one of the last paintings of Oskar Moll's oeuvre. Characteristic of his late style is a delicate, cool colouring dominated by a light, powdery blue tone. The contours of the depiction dissolve, the paint is only lightly dabbed; red, green and yellow tones set brilliant accents. There is no sign of Oskar Moll's post-war situation full of hardships and health problems in these late works. Their luminous transparency rather lends the subjects the appearance of fleeting illusions in a summery light atmosphere.
