An ivory netsuke of a rat with a shôgi-piece. Second half 19th century

Sitting on her long coiled tail and clasping a shôgi-piece inscribed keima (horse, the equivalent of a knight in Western chess) with her right front paw. The protruding eyes inlaid in black horn. Insribed Masasada on an oval reserve.
Height 2.8 cm; length 3.5 cm
