An Osaka school boxwood netsuke of Tekkai Sennin, by Tsuji. Second half 18th century

Exhaling his soul, his lips still pursed from blowing, looking up at his outstretched left hand. He wears a belted leaf robe and gaiters and holds a bamboo stick in his right hand. Very finely carved, engraved and polished. Signed Tsuji on the inside of the himotoshi. Restored.

Cf. MCI, p. 959. According to Meinertzhagen, Brockhaus mentions a further piece by Tsuji in the Hayashi Collection – a piece that is dated to the 19th century.
