An ivory netsuke of a mermaid with a pearl. 18th century

Swimming, holding the tama-shaped jewel in her hands in front of her chest. A diadem in the shape of a stylised butterfly on her forehead and a flower in front of the carefully pinned topknot. Very finely carved and polished, hair and scales finely engraved and darkly accentuated. Beautiful, glossy, golden-yellow patina. Hairline cracks.
