An ivory netsuke of a mythological animal. 19th century

Possibly a kappa. Standing upright with a shishi-type, curly tail held high, scratching its head with its right paw. Finely carved, engraved and polished, scales and hair with dark staining, the large eyes inlaid with black horn. Restored.
Height 8 cm
