Standing in a long robe, his right hand raised to strike the deadly blow, his left hand holding the left ear of a tiger standing next to him. Powerfully carved, finely engraved and polished.
H 4,3 cm

This netsuke depicts a scene from chapter 23 of the book of folk tales ‘The Robbers of the Liang Schan Moor’ (Chinese: Shuihu zhuan). Following a murder, Sanbushô (Chinese: Wu Song) flees his home province. Not averse to alcohol, he is attacked by a tiger during a night walk but kills it with a punch with the “power of an iron hammer”.
