An ivory netsuke of a seated shishi. Around 1800

The temple lion sitting upright and wearing a finely engraved collar, with flames emanating from the long curls at the shoulders. Its beard ends in volutes, repeated on the tail with three lambent flames. The leg and thigh joints decorated with rounded bulges of fur. Powerfully carved and polished with light reddish-brown patination, the engraving with brown-black accents.
