A boxwood netsuke of a tiger. First half 19th century

Seated, the jaws slightly opened, the tip of the long alert tail raised to the chin. Sensitively carved, the finely engraved fur stripes darkly patinated. The small eyes inlaid with black horn. Signed Masanao (Yamada) on an oval, smoothly polished reserve.
Length 4 cm

Possibly a work by Masanao Miyake, active 1830-50.
