A Kyoto school boxwood netsuke of a snail on a hat, by Masanao. 18th century

A snail seated on a hat (kasa), of the type worn by pilgrims. Very finely carved and engraved. The padded ring and large loops used to fix the hat in place, on the underside. Signed Masanao in an oval reserve.
